>The PS3, having been on the market for more than three years, has finally been hacked by a group of hardware hackers. They claim that they are about to release the first product to allow gamers to play home-spun and pirated games on the PlayStation 3. The PS3 is the only games console that has ‘not been hacked’ apparently. A group called PSJailbreak says it will release a USB dongle containing software that permits users to save games to the console’s hard drive. Unsurprisingly, PSJailbreak is not the first group that claims to have hacked the popular PS3, which has sold nearing 40 million units. A US hacker, popular for unlocking Apple’s iPhone mobile as a teenager, George Hotz, famously claimed to have cracked the console earlier this year. Following the announcement from the youngster, Sony released an update for the console disabling a function that allowed gamers to install a version of Linux on their machines, thought to have been made use of by Mr Hotz. Neither Sony or PSJailbreak have responded to questions regarding the hacking. Hardly unpredictable on Sony’s part really, how embarrassing (or wanted).
